CREATING A LEVELING GESSO GROUND
OBJECTIVE:Create a beautiful, matte, level ground for painting. Not suitable as a pouring ground.
GOLDEN PRODUCTS:
– GOLDEN Black or White Gesso
– GOLDEN Color Pouring Medium MATTE
– GOLDEN Gloss Medium (if needed)
TOOLS / MATERIALS:
– Rigid painting surface
– Container with lid for mixing and storing
– Soft brush
STEP – BY – STEP:
STEP 1: For absorbent surfaces, apply 2 coats of gloss medium. Wait 3 days for the material to cure.
STEP 2: Mix equal parts GESSO with COLOR POURING MEDIUM MATTE in the storage container. (1:1 ratio) Stir until combined.
STEP 3: Brush the mixture onto the panel. Brush strokes should level out and air bubbles should dissipate. Stir before each use.
STEP 4: Let dry in a level, dust-free environment. A drying tent can slow down drying time, protect the surface while wet, and deter imperfections in the dried film.
STEP 5: When dry, you should have a velvety, toothy ground free of tool marks. Wait 3 days for the material to cure before continuing with the painting.
