Mixed Media Drawing and Surface Prep
We are all very excited about the recent acquisition of PanPastel and welcoming it into the GOLDEN Family of products. We have been enjoying our conversations with artists who use their PanPastel Colors as part of their mixed media practice. We will in the future show the variety of ways artists have shared how these products intersect in subsequent JustPaint.org articles. We will also be providing additional support on our website in the future. In the meantime, we wanted to take this time to reprieve an insightful article on drawing and mark making written by one of our past very talented artists and Materials & Applications Specialists, Amy McKinnon. The article called “Make a Mark,” reviewed dozens of commercial drawing and mark making applications over a wide array of GOLDEN Acrylic products.
Since drawing and mark making continue to be a constant refrain of many of the artists contacting us today, it seemed valuable to share this information once again. The only edit we’d make in the content is the fact that we no longer produce Matte Fluids or Matte Heavy Body colors, other than for custom requests. These have been replaced by our SoFlat Matte Acrylic colors, that actually provide an incredible velvety surface for drawing and mark making.
In writing this introduction, I am reminded that we’ve been publishing technical articles on artist paint and related materials for over 35 years. So much of this content has been inspired by the many artists that contact us via email or phone to the Materials & Applications team. This team is backed by the artists and scientists in our lab and decades of cooperative research conducted here at Golden Artist Colors. They are here to assist artists, at any point in their career with personal, individualized support. They can be reached by our toll-free support phone line in the U.S. at (800) 959-6543 or worldwide via email at [email protected] or through JustPaint.org or the GOLDEN website.
NOTE: Amy left us in 2015, and while continuing her art career, has also launched a successful career with her husband harvesting and producing incredible maple syrup and maple products at Mill Hollow Maple in Garrettsville, NY.
